Migrate from Shopify Native Search

Plan a controlled move from your current Shopify search configuration. FilterIQ is in private preview; access, catalogue sync and theme validation are separate steps, and their timing varies.

What Changes

Shopify provides predictive search and typo tolerance, and Search & Discovery adds filters, synonyms, boosts and reports. Review the Shopify storefront search guide before deciding which settings need to change.

Migration Steps

Step 1: Install FilterIQ

Request private-preview access and confirm the required features and plan.
If accepted, follow the installation path supplied by the team and review the Shopify approval screens.
Create a duplicate theme and record the current configuration. Confirm which app settings affect the whole store before changing them.
Review an AI-assisted draft, then enable the supplied Theme App Extension in the duplicate theme preview.

Step 2: Verify Search Works

Open the duplicate theme preview.
Replay the recorded query set and check the actual products returned.
Test filter combinations, empty results, sorting and clearing selections.
Check keyboard navigation and mobile controls, then record any differences from the current storefront.

Step 3: Validate the Theme Integration and Switch

Check how the extension attaches to the theme's existing search input; do not remove that input simply to install the extension.
Resolve overlapping search or filter controls in the duplicate theme.
Confirm the rollback procedure and any store-wide publish effects with the team.
Publish the accepted theme/configuration and repeat the same search and filter checks on the live storefront.

What About My Existing Search Data?

Search settings and history: Keep a record of the settings and reports available in Shopify. Do not assume that previous synonyms, boosts or analytics are imported.
Product data: FilterIQ uses Shopify catalogue data; verify sync coverage and plan limits.
Collections: Test the collections and filter scopes your shoppers use.
URLs: Test existing search links and bookmarked filter states before switching; do not assume that URL behaviour is identical.

Rollback

If you want to revert to native search:

Restore the retained theme and its recorded search settings, including any original app embed state.
Disable the FilterIQ integration for that theme and review any shared app configuration changes.
Test the original search, filters and URLs before treating rollback as successful.
Consider uninstalling only after the required storefront behaviour and billing consequences have been reviewed.
