AI Assistant

Use the AI Assistant to get help with search configuration, filter setup, and store optimization.

AI Assistant

Beta

The AI Assistant is a chat-based copilot built into the FilterIQ admin app. It helps you configure your store's search and filters, answers questions about your data, and suggests optimizations based on your product catalog and analytics.

Accessing the AI Assistant

Open the AI Assistant from anywhere in the app dashboard:

  1. Click the AI Assistant icon in the bottom-right corner of the dashboard
  2. The assistant chat panel slides open
  3. Type your question or request and press Enter

The AI Assistant is available on the Pro and Plus plans. Each interaction consumes AI credits from your monthly allowance.

What the AI Assistant Can Do

Suggest Filters

Ask the assistant to recommend filters for your store. It analyzes your product catalog and suggests filter types based on the attributes your products actually have.

  • "What filters should I add for my clothing store?"
  • "Which product attributes have enough variety to make good filters?"
  • "Suggest filters based on my top-selling collections."

Analyze Your Data

The assistant can query your product data and analytics to answer questions about your catalog.

  • "How many products are missing a vendor field?"
  • "What are my top 10 search queries with zero results?"
  • "Which filters are shoppers using the most?"

Help with Setup

Get step-by-step guidance on configuring features, without leaving the chat.

  • "How do I set up synonyms for my shoe store?"
  • "Walk me through creating a merchandising rule to boost new arrivals."
  • "How do I hide out-of-stock products from search results?"

Answer Questions

Ask anything about how FilterIQ works, and the assistant provides answers with links to the relevant documentation.

  • "What is the difference between one-way and two-way synonyms?"
  • "How does typo tolerance work?"
  • "Why are some of my products not appearing in search?"

Intent Classification

The AI Assistant classifies your questions into intent categories to provide the most relevant response:

IntentDescriptionExample
ConfigurationChanging a setting or feature"Enable typo tolerance"
AnalysisQuerying data or analytics"Show me my top searches"
TroubleshootingDiagnosing a problem"Why is search slow?"
ExplanationUnderstanding how something works"What are searchable attributes?"
RecommendationAsking for suggestions"What filters should I use?"

When the assistant is unsure about your intent, it asks a clarifying question before proceeding.

Multi-Turn Conversations

The AI Assistant maintains context across multiple messages in the same session. You can have back-and-forth conversations to refine your request:

You: "What filters would work for my store?" Assistant: "Based on your catalog, I recommend Color, Size, Price Range, and Brand filters. Would you like me to explain any of these in detail?" You: "Tell me more about the Color filter." Assistant: "Your products have 47 unique color values. I recommend using a color swatch filter type, which displays visual swatches instead of text checkboxes..."

Each session maintains context for up to 20 messages. Starting a new chat session resets the conversation history.

Limitations

The AI Assistant has some boundaries you should be aware of:

  • It cannot make changes directly. The assistant provides recommendations and instructions, but it does not modify your settings automatically. You apply changes yourself through the dashboard.
  • It does not have access to your Shopify admin. It works with your FilterIQ data (products indexed, filters configured, analytics) but cannot access orders, customers, or other Shopify data outside of search and filtering.
  • It may not know about very recent changes. Product data is refreshed periodically. If you just added products, the assistant may not see them until the next sync completes.
  • It uses AI credits. Each message exchange consumes credits from your plan's monthly allowance. Check your usage in Settings > Billing.
  • Complex technical issues still need human support. For bugs, integration issues, or account-level problems, contact support@filteriq.app.

Tips for Better Results

  • Be specific about what you want: "Suggest filters for my electronics collection" works better than "Help with filters."
  • Provide context when troubleshooting: "Search for 'red dress' returns zero results but I have 15 red dresses" helps the assistant diagnose the issue.
  • Use follow-up questions to drill deeper into a topic rather than starting a new conversation.

AI providers and data flow

The AI Assistant routes prompts to one of our approved AI sub-processors — currently Anthropic (Claude API) or OpenAI (GPT API). Both are disclosed in our Sub-processor List on the Privacy Policy page, which is the authoritative live list generated from docs/governance/SUBPROCESSORS.yaml. Catalog metadata is minimized and redacted before submission; neither provider is authorized to use submitted merchant data to train public models.
