Migration from Other Apps

If you are currently using a search or filter app other than Shopify's built-in search or Boost Commerce, this guide covers the general migration process.

Before You Start

Document your current setup -- Take screenshots of your current filter sidebar, search results, and any custom configurations
Export any custom data -- If your current app supports exporting synonyms, merchandising rules, or filter configurations, export them before uninstalling
Note your current metrics -- Record your current search conversion rate and zero-result rate as a baseline

Migration Steps

Step 1: Install FilterIQ

Request private-preview access. If accepted, follow the installation path supplied by the team. Create a duplicate theme, record the current integration and retain it for rollback. Confirm store-wide app-setting effects before enabling a second integration; two apps may conflict.

Step 2: Run AI Setup

Use the available analysis to request a first draft within the applicable plan and service limits. It does not import the previous app's configuration or establish a better result merely by completing a scan.

Review the suggestions and adjust as needed.

Step 3: Configure Synonyms

If you exported synonyms from your previous app, you can add them manually in Search > Synonyms. Alternatively:

Use Scan Store to request candidate synonym pairs from catalogue evidence, then review and test them
Apply pre-built synonym packs for your industry
Add individual synonym pairs as needed

Step 4: Set Up Merchandising Rules

Recreate any important merchandising rules:

Pinned products -- Re-pin products to specific positions in Merchandising > Rules
Hidden products -- Re-hide products using rules or presets
Boost/demote rules -- Recreate using the custom rules interface

Consider using one-click presets for common scenarios (Hide Out-of-Stock, Boost New Arrivals, etc.) instead of manually recreating each rule.

Step 5: Test on Your Storefront

Open the duplicate theme editor and record its existing app embed state
Disable the previous app's overlapping theme integration and enable FilterIQ in that duplicate theme, following the agreed onboarding sequence
Test search and filter functionality in the duplicate theme preview
Verify results are relevant and filters work correctly
Check on both desktop and mobile

Step 6: Switch Over

Once you are satisfied with the configuration:

Publish your FilterIQ configuration to the storefront
Disable the previous app's storefront integration completely
Repeat the accepted checks on the live storefront and observe available analytics for a period appropriate to your traffic and risks
Review other features supplied by the previous app and its removal/billing instructions before uninstalling

Migrating from Specific Apps

Algolia Search & Discovery

Inventory the indices, query rules and frontend behaviour your Algolia integration supplies.
If export is available, retain the synonym data and review each intended mapping before entering it in FilterIQ.
Recreate supported merchandising actions explicitly; do not assume that rule syntax or ranking behaviour transfers.

Searchanise

Record redirects, synonyms and filter definitions from the current app.
Confirm where each redirect should be implemented and test its destination.
Review a FilterIQ draft against those definitions; an AI scan is not an import of the previous configuration.

Klevu

Document category ordering, synonyms and any recommendation features used by your store.
Check whether the required ranking actions can be recreated and validate their collection scope.
Treat recommendations as a separate requirement; a pre-search panel is not evidence of an equivalent recommendation system.

Shopify Search & Discovery

Review Shopify storefront search and the Search & Discovery settings already available to your store.

What to Evaluate

Evaluate each proposed change against the recorded baseline:

Feature	Benefit
AI-assisted setup	Review a first draft and record the work needed to reach an accepted configuration
Search responsiveness	Measure input-to-result behaviour on representative devices and networks
Filter displays	Match available controls to the required catalogue attributes
Synonym management	Review candidate pairs and test approved matches
Merchandising presets	Inspect affected products, manual targets and overlapping rules
Theme loading	Measure layout stability and check interaction with other theme components

Rollback Plan

If you need to roll back to your previous app:

Restore the retained theme and recorded previous-app integration state.
Disable the FilterIQ integration for that theme and restore any shared configuration changed during migration.
Test the original query set, filters, URLs and other app features. Do not assume that toggling embeds alone restores all behaviour.
