Merchandising Presets
Apply built-in merchandising rules to collection and browse results.
Merchandising Presets
Merchandising presets are prebuilt rules for common collection and browse-result ordering tasks. Some presets identify matching products from catalog conditions. Presets marked Manual do not select products automatically.
All built-in presets use global scope. In the current storefront runtime, global rules affect collection and browse results but are skipped during text searches so search relevance stays primary.
Condition-Based and Manual Presets
- Condition-based presets apply their built-in catalog condition when enabled. The preset row may display an affected-product count.
- Manual presets display a Manual badge. Enabling one creates an enabled preset rule with no targets or conditions, so the toggle alone has no effect on products. Select + Create rule to create a separate dashboard rule for one product, tag, vendor, or product type, then choose global browse scope or a specific query and an optional schedule. That custom rule is not attached to the preset rule.
Available Presets
Boost New Arrivals
When enabled, captures a cutoff date 30 days earlier and promotes products created after that fixed date. Disable and re-enable the preset when you need to refresh the cutoff.
Mode: Condition-based.
Boost Sale Items
Promotes products that are currently on sale in collection and browse results.
Mode: Condition-based.
Boost High Margin
Provides a starting point for promoting products you have identified as higher-margin items in collection and browse results.
Mode: Manual. The preset toggle alone does not target products. Create a separate custom rule and select the products to boost.
Boost Best Sellers
Provides a starting point for promoting products you have identified as top sellers in collection and browse results.
Mode: Manual. The preset toggle alone does not target products. Create a separate custom rule and select the products to boost.
Bury Products Without Images
Pushes products with no images lower in collection and browse results.
Mode: Condition-based.
Bury Limited Sizing
Pushes products with fewer than three available variants lower in collection and browse results.
Mode: Condition-based.
Boost Well-Stocked
Promotes products with more than 20 units in inventory in collection and browse results.
Mode: Condition-based.
Bury Low Inventory
Pushes products with fewer than five units in inventory lower in collection and browse results.
Mode: Condition-based.
Seasonal Campaign
Provides a starting point for a temporary browse campaign.
Mode: Manual. The preset toggle alone does not target products. Create a separate custom rule, choose its targets, and add a schedule when needed.
Applying a Preset
- Go to Merchandising in the app dashboard.
- Find the Presets section.
- Use the toggle next to a preset to enable or disable it.
- For a condition-based preset, review its affected-product count when one is shown.
- For a preset marked Manual, select + Create rule and create a separate targeted rule before expecting any product changes.
Preset changes do not require a separate publish step.
The Boost New Arrivals cutoff is calculated only when its rule is created. It does not roll forward automatically each day.
How Presets Interact
Multiple presets can be active simultaneously. Matching rules are evaluated from highest priority to lowest. For a product targeted by more than one non-hide rule, the first matching action wins; later pin, boost, or bury actions do not replace or add to it. A matching Hide action always removes the product, regardless of other actions.
Presets vs. Custom Rules
| Feature | Presets | Custom Rules |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Toggle a built-in rule; a manual toggle alone has no product effect | Configure the complete rule |
| Targeting | Built-in catalog condition or manual follow-up | One product, tag, vendor, or product type in the dashboard |
| Storefront scope | Collection and browse results | Collection/browse results with global scope, or a specific text query with query scope |
| Scheduling | No preset schedule by default | Optional date-range scheduling |
| Best for | Common, repeatable merchandising tasks | Store-specific campaigns and exceptions |
Customizing Preset Thresholds
The built-in thresholds, such as the 30-day cutoff for new arrivals or five units for low inventory, are not currently editable in the preset panel. The current custom-rule dashboard does not expose alternate numeric or date thresholds. Create a custom merchandising rule when you instead need a product, tag, vendor, or product-type target, a specific query, or scheduling.
Next Steps
- Custom Merchandising Rules -- Configure a product, tag, vendor, or product-type target with browse or query-specific scope.
- Scheduling -- Schedule rules for promotions and temporary campaigns.
